***FREE DAKINE AIR WAGON KITE BAG***
with any Airush Kite
The DNA originally started life as a concept/entry level hybrid bow for beginners and schools, but as it developed more and more of the riders, as well as the designer were using it as a mainstream kite, especially for waveriding. Dimitri uses one of these as his stock quiver kite.
In a nutshell it's a three strut, medium aspect direct bar connection hybrid bow for beginner to expert use. I have an early protototype here and it's quite a versatile kite. For me the difference in the DNA over the Flow SLE and the pure bows comes from the power and turning ability - they sit fairly deep in the window and turn more like the freestyle kites, making them excellent for waveriding. Plenty of punchy power on tap, but the ability to depower when you need it (ie top turn and beginners losing the plot!)
A surfboards best friend in the smaller sizes they have a great deal of stability for the beginner, and their medium aspect means that they restart just as easily, the same way as a medium aspect C kite. Having a fair amount of canopy curve compared to a pure bow but less than a C kite obviously, their windrange is extended - not as much as a flow so the 10m will power as early as a 12/13C but depowers to nothing. The other aspect that the increased curve of the DNA gives is stability; even more so than the Flow SLE; they are again immune to bad handling traits like inversions.
Like the Flow SLE the DNA has the ability to depower to absolutely nothing. With the stopper ball set to maximum depower the kite canopy will totally depower leaving you no residual pull. For beginners and intermediates you can set the maximum depower by moving the stopperball to give you a steady stable idle or a stop to ride the bar against hence removing all bar pressure.
Like the Flow SLE the DNA uses a primary safety off the trigger release, with extra re-ride facility on the ends of the bar should you need it.
Build quality is higher than last years kites even on the prototype I have here - all Airush's kites are coming from a different factory this year, the factory that the kites with the highest build qualities come from (been told not to say - airush were with their old factory since 2002) - and the DNA is the first airush kite to have the North style heavy duty trailing edge panel material. I can't honestly say if it is the same but it looks it to me!
As with all of these new style hybrid kites, unlike the c's before one of the main factors to their performance and usability is the bar system, and I have not seen (aside from the diagrams above) or tried the new bar and line setup. I know the new bar has an oversized machined alloy centre hole and as you can see in the pics the entire bar system is very different to the airush bars of previous years. The new kites will be a lot further up the evolutionary ladder than the one that I have here, so I'm looking forward to trying them in the next 4-5 weeks when they finally land.
As far as costings go I have not been given any prices yet - but we are hoping this kite will be competetive. I have also attached Arush's official press for the kite which will give you a more corporate idea of what the kite is and where it fits into the range.
